What Makes Me Move
Picking a single favourite artist? Impossible. My musical taste is wide-ranging and wildly unpredictable — a friend once told me my Spotify playlist gave her whiplash with the way it switches gears. She’s not wrong.
I’ve got a soft spot for the nostalgic pull of classic ‘80s bands, and I’ll always vibe with the newer wave of country and country-trap artists. But if I had to choose one genre that consistently makes me feel alive, it’s Electronic Dance Music.

EDM has a pulse — a freedom — that hits differently. It’s my go-to for getting hyped before softball, staying sharp during night shifts, or powering through a late-night design sprint. The build-up, the repetition, the drop — it’s a whole contagious mood. At its heart, EDM is about movement. It’s meant for crowds, for shared spaces, for dancing like nobody (or everybody) is watching. My top three? Hedegaard, Timmy Trumpet, and David Guetta — no contest.
When I need to focus on words — reading, writing, thinking deeply — I lean into instrumental and classical sounds. But when I’m in full creative mode, headphones on and hands in motion, nothing motivates me like a driving beat that keeps pace with my thoughts. When my Liked Songs playlist is rolling and I know what’s coming next, it’s like the music becomes a part of me. I don’t have to think — I just move.
Honourable mentions? Pitbull (forever Mr. Worldwide), and Youngr, whose blend of dance and hip-hop always finds a way into rotation.
Calvin Harris will never go out of style, especially not with new hits like this one that’s at the top of my faves list.
Youngr has a new collab with Goodluck – give it a listen!!
