This isn’t just any scarf—it’s a tribute to the timeless whimsy of the Doctor. I’m knitting my way through the third skein of Turtlepurl’s THE Doctor colourway, and every stripe feels like a new chapter. This is my lunch break / travel project, so it’s growing at a meandering, meditative pace. And honestly? That feels just right.

  • A striped scarf-in-progress in red, yellow, purple, grey, and tan lies on a white comforter with a dark blue project bag in the background that reads "Dobby is Free." Circular needles are visible at the top of the work.
  • A soft-focus shot of the scarf with emphasis on the surface texture. Yellow stitches in particular catch the light, showing the purl bumps and fabric dimension.
  • A close-up of a running hole added intentionally into the knit fabric, along with visible yarn tails left out from a knot-joined skein.
  • A slightly angled view of the scarf showcasing its consistent striping and texture, with the background softly blurred.
  • A female (partially visible) holding the scarf up to their chest to show its current length. She is wearing a faded mid-blue t-shirt with Minions on the chest, and a pair of Woxer ballers in a dark red with bright red bows printed on them. An abstract painting and art supplies are visible in the background.

This piece leans hard into the worn-and-loved aesthetic. Alongside the delightfully uneven purl bumps that naturally occur where the red and yellow overlap, I’ve added intentional running holes to evoke years of wear and timey-wimey adventure. Rather than weaving in my ends invisibly, I’ve embraced visible knots and left tails on the right side—a nod to the beautifully ragged look of a well-traveled scarf.

I still have five more skeins waiting in the wings, plus a couple extras I can borrow from my sock stash if I decide to go full Fourth Doctor (and let’s be honest – we both know that I will). There’s something so deeply satisfying about letting this iconic palette unfold in front of me. Emily at Turtlepurl really nails the colour transitions, and watching each section emerge is a joy I never tire of.

As this scarf grows, it carries the story of quiet moments and bursts of joy—a handmade timeline in stripes. It’s not just cosplay, and it’s more than just a scarf. It’s a stitched love letter to adventure.

Ludicrous length? You bet. We’re knitting toward full Fourth Doctor energy — with love in every stitch.
